Do good for ppl but don't expect them to be good to you?

I've always heard "it's not a good quality to expect something in return when you do something for someone", but honestly I don't believe in that completely. This is what I mean. If I did a good deed for someone when they were down, why shouldn't I expect them to be there for me when I fall? Or why shouldn't I expect that they treat me like a human being and not disrespect or hurt me? Is it okay for people to go around treating the ones who helped them bad? I don't think so! Generosity is something we all should carry. Be good to people and expect it in return. That's what I believe! Saying its bad to expect in return anything from someone you've loved and respected is basically giving them the okay and satisfaction they want to think its okay to use people or hurt them and keep it moving! That's why when they hurt you and you say but I've been so kind to you they say see now you want to bring up what you did for me! No I'm bringing up how I've treated you and cared for yo, and how you did for me the complete opposite!!!
