This delicious and cheesy pastry was one of my favorite to get from my hometown bakery when I was growing up as a child back in Grenada. I would buy it sometimes on my way home from school or whenever I passed the bakery and it would be freshly baked, warm and delicious! The best way I could describe it is as a roll full of cheese. Here is the recipe:
Ingredients
2 cups sifted flour
4 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp salted butter, softened
1 cup evaporated milk
3 cups grated white cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees - In large bowl, sift flour and baking powder - add one cup of the cheddar cheese to the flour and give a stir - In another bowl cream the butter then add it to the flour mixture and mix together - add the milk in thirds and fold into the flour to make a soft dough - knead dough a little (approximately 2 mins) just to get a smooth soft dough (do not knead too long as we don't want the dough to be too tight) - using a rolling pin flatten dough to about 1cm thick - sprinkle the remaining cheese all over the dough. - roll up the dough from the longest side then cut into about 1inch thick rolls - place them on a greased baking sheet and bake for 30 mins or until golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy! **I also have a video showing you how to make this recipe. You can check it out here: http://youtu.be/Ee3vt4Z6_HU
